JOHN P. TORBITZKY
John represents governmental entities, businesses, and individuals in complex commercial, creditors' rights, civil rights, and employment litigation. John has also represented insurers, businesses, and individuals in insurance coverage and bad faith insurance litigation. In addition, John has successfully handled numerous dispositive motions and appeals. Prior to joining Behr, McCarter & Potter, P.C., John served as a law clerk to the Honorable Zel M. Fischer of the Supreme Court of Missouri. John has been recognized by Super Lawyers® as a Rising Star in business litigation every year since 2016. In 2018, John was selected by Missouri’s Appellate Judicial Commission as one of three finalists for a judgeship on the Eastern District Court of Appeals, and he was named one of Missouri’s Up & Coming Lawyers by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.®
John earned his B.A., cum laude, in English from the University of Missouri and his J.D., summa cum laude, from Saint Louis University School of Law. While in law school, John was the Managing Editor of the Saint Louis University Law Journal. John was named to the Order of the Woolsack and Alpha Sigma Nu and earned Academic Excellence Awards for top grades in Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Contracts II, Evidence, Trust & Estates, Criminal Procedure, and Conflicts of Laws.
John is admitted to practice in Missouri, Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
Outside of the office, John serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Cornerstone Center for Early Learning.
John currently resides in the City of St. Louis with his wife, son, and daughter.
